slowdive

Slowdive is a english shoegaze band which is a branch of alternative rock formed by Neil halstead, Rachel Goswell, Nick Chaplin, Christian Savill, Adrian Sell. When first active in 1989-1995 Slowdive were extremely overlooked and hated by critics but in the past few years slowdive has been making arise with the revival of the shoegaze scene. Slowdive started to become active again in 2014 due to this branch of rock becoming in the music scene after 20 years which they followed with releasing an album in 2017.

How british rock is a cultural influence today

Since the 60s alternative rock has been one of the most popular music styles with many branches of it. Today many artists influences and inspirations are rock bands due to growing up listening to the artists. Now many people make and listen to music that speaks to them which is thanks to alternative rock. In the past 3 decades many films, television shows, and novels have been created about this historic time in pop culture, creating a fictional way for to one consuming the media to be put into a world they either reminisce about or never got to experience. Being a 'Rockstar' isn't like it used to be in the 60s-80s but its still a dream people try to achieve which media about this time fictional or not makes the dream seem much more achievable. Media that have come out in the past few decades about this time are Elvis(2022), Almost Famous(2000), Velvet Goldmine(1998), Daisy Jones and The Six(2023/2019), and Utopia Avenue(2020)

Radiohead

Radiohead is an english rock band formed by Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Philip Selway. Radiohead had become extremely popular after releasing their first single 'Creep' after their debut album 'Pablo Honey'. Radiohead were a huge part of the alternative rock scene in the 90s, with album after albums, consistently making new music which helped keep their popularity rising, with their most recent release in 2016.

What influenced british rock?

Many things influenced rock music such as folk, jazz, blues, and country. Using the instruments to create a new different sounds to create emotional yet musically creative music. Rock music uses many different (pop)cultural elements to create something that anyone and everyone can enjoy and relate to. Many of the genres stated were very cultural to the place they derived from folk and country can be from different areas but have a distinct sound that tie it back to either European or American roots.

Cocteau Twins

Cocteau Twins are a Scottish alternative rock band formed by Elizabeth Fraser, Robin Guthrie, and Simon Raymonde. The band had found success with the release of their album 'Heaven or Las Vegas' in 1990. After the band brokeup Elizabeth Fraser had started a relationship with American alternative rock singer Jeff Buckley, who is the son of folk singer Tim Buckley which they made yet didnt release the song 'All flowers in time bend towards the sun' which created a mix of two similar yet different alternative rock cultures.

American alternative Rocks roots in British rock

The craze over alternative rock went everywhere, with artists and new fans popping up everywhere. During the 80s new wave music became popularized many of it coming from the UK but led its ways into America which inspired many artists. Alternative rock paved the way for many new genres to come about but the real starter was blues which has inspired many music genres like country and R&B.
